But he was unreachable.\n\n\"I'm glad Ma's well,\" said Kevin.\n\n\"Oh, she's doing rightly,\" said his father.\n\n\"And so is the baby,\" said Brede with a smile. \"Just a wee wisp of\na thing . You forget how weelittle they are when they're newly born.\"\n\nThey sat round the kitchen table drinking tea and eating soda\nbread that Brede had baked earlier.
