He closed his eyes and clung to the gate, feeling suddenly weak. When he was almost home he stopped in the middle of the road. "I should have offered to baptize the child.!" he exclaimed aloud. The thought kept nagging at him during dinner so that he failed to attend to his wife's remarks.
