Dumay,\n14 Rue de Gaulle,\n21240 Talant,\nPrance,\n\nDear M. Dumay,\n\nMy friend Eileen O'Casey kindly gave me your name when\nI was enquiring about a French translator for one of my\nplays called THE FLATS.\n\nThis play has had great success throughout Ireland, has also had a\nsuccessful production in Germany, and is going on at a New York\noff-off-Broadway theatre for the 2nd time this Autumn.\n\nAltogether it has proved to be very popular play, and has\nbeen compared to O'Casey - hence Eileen O'Casey's interest in\nmy work.\n\nWhen I was lecturing at the Sorbonne about a year ago a Paris\ngroup were interested in a French production, and I began to\nthink about a French translation. If you would be interested\nI would send you a copy of the play (it has been published and\ngone into two editions), and T would also send you some of the\nnotices from Irish, American, and German newspapers.\n\nI understand from Eileen O'Casey that you have already\ntranslated FIGURE IN THE NIGHT and some of Sean's later\nplays. I don't think, therefore, that you would find my\nidiom particularly difficult. I would of course give you\nevery co-operation.\n\nI am familiar enough with French, and visit Paris from time to\ntime, but I thinght it best to write to you in English.\n\nYours sincerely,\n\nJOHN BOYD (signed)\n\n(Copy of original letter transcribed from shorthand, due to\nloss of copy)\n","Type":"Text"}}]
